Westfield Youth Sports

Lacrosse is a fast paced sport that is growing throughout our area!  It is great for multi-sport athletes as it will help with agility, hand eye coordination and endurance.  It takes elements from soccer, football, basketball, baseball and hockey that will help your son build skills that will transfer.  If your son is playing another Spring sports and wants to give lacrosse a try we will be flexible to their schedule.

WYSI offer two levels of Lacrosse programs - In-House Lacrosse (8U) and Travel Lacrosse (10U, 12U, 14U).

IN-HOUSE LACROSSE
8U  (generally K-2nd grade)

8U will have 10 to 12 days of activities starting in Mid-March or right after Spring Break.  The first several sessions will include training on fundamentals and basic stick skills.  The later sessions will include skill development and live scrimmages.  Full lacrosse equipment is needed and is not provided by WYSI. To play in games, each player must have a valid US Lacrosse ID. If a 2nd grader would like to play on up on 10U travel, please contact Derek Horsby. .

Commitment: The expected commitment for the In-House league will be 1-2 days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays or Sundays).  We may have some indoor activities in late February or early March that may not follow this schedule.  This will be based on our ability to get indoor space

days: Tuesdays and Thursdays or Sundays

Games: will typically be on one of the above practice days

TRAVEL LACROSSE

10U, 12U, 14U  (generally 3rd-8th grade)

We will also have at least one travel team at each age division listed below.  There are no tryouts, and everyone will be placed on a travel team based on their skill level.  We will likely have more than one travel team at each age group and some players may play on both the A and B team.   The A team will be expected to compete at a high level and the B teams will be focused on player development and building knowledge of the game.

These teams will play in competitive games against other teams in the Indiana Youth Lacrosse Association (IYLA).  The 12U and 14U A teams will compete in the IYLA State tournament at the end of the season.  10U, 12U and 14U players will be placed on each team based on a skill evaluation.  Full lacrosse equipment is needed and is not provided by WYSI. To play in games, each player must have a valid US Lacrosse ID.

10U (born between September 1 2012 and August 31, 2014)
is a travel league program. Players will be instructed on the fundamentals of lacrosse for their age group and will play in games against nearby schools. Prior lacrosse experience is not necessary to participate. In March, practice is typically two to three nights a week. During the season, expect some combination of practice/games two to three times a week. The practice/game schedule depends on coaching availability and schedule. Full lacrosse equipment is needed and is not provided by WYSI. To play in games, each player must have a valid US Lacrosse ID.

12U (born between September 1, 2010 and August 31 2012)

14U ((born Between September 1, 2008 and August 31, 2010 - or currently in 8th grade)
is a travel league program. Players will be instructed on the fundamentals of lacrosse for their age group and will play in games against nearby schools. Prior lacrosse experience is not necessary. *We will also be selecting players to compete in very competitive tournaments that will not be including in the registration fee.  All selections to these teams will be at the discretion of the coaches to put the most competitive teams together as possible at every position.  Playing time will be based on the game situations. If your son is selected and available to play in these tournaments, we will divide up the tournament fees by the players who attend and collecting that fee separately prior to each event.

UNIFORMS / EQUIPMENT

UNIFORMS / EQUIPMENT

IMPORTANT INFO ON UNIFORMS:
To keep cost down for most returning families we are going to use the same uniforms as last year.  If you are returning player and rising to the next age group that creates a duplicate number, you will need to order another uniform.  We can’t have duplicate numbers in game play.  We will reach out to those returning players impacted once you register.  Anyone new to the program or players how have outgrown their previous year’s uniform will need to order their uniform form the Webstore we will set up.

Cost for a full uniform (jersey and shorts) will be approximately $75. We will have firm number on pricing and the cost of a separate jersey or shorts prior to opening the uniform webstore.

EQUIPMENT
We know the cost of equipment is not inexpensive.  Used equipment is always an option too.  Please consider visiting Play It Again Sports (a WYSI sponsor) for your used lacrosse equipment.  Additionally, we will communicate an opportunity to buy a discounted intro package that will include a helmet, 2022 compliant shoulder pads (with commotio cordis protection), elbow pads and gloves prior to the start of the season.  We recommend getting a stick to practice with now if you are new to the sport.  - Shoulder pads (with 2022 compliant with commotio cordis protection) $70 and up
