The WYSI baseball program is committed to providing a quality baseball

experience for players at all skill levels.  It is also our goal to provide

as many players as possible an opportunity to play baseball at an

upper level by offering travel baseball teams which cater to the skill

level of each player.  Based on this goal, we have structured our

travel baseball program to maximize opportunities for children to play

at the next level while also continuing to help them learn to respect

the game, improve their baseball skills, and have fun.

Each age group (8U-13U) will field one team that will play travel

baseball.  Based on the evaluations completed during travel baseball

try-outs, a second travel team may be formed, but only if the

number of those trying out and the skill level warrant the

formation of such a team.

What is Westfield Rocks Travel Baseball?

The Westfield Rocks travel team provides an opportunity to Westfield players to

compete at the highest level of youth baseball competition. The Westfield Rocks

proudly represent the Westfield community. The program is founded upon providing

the best baseball instruction available while exposing the players to high levels of

competition. It also provides parents and our coaching staffs an opportunity to teach

values to the players and many lifelong lessons: Teamwork-friendship-respect-

practice-dedication and sportsmanship.

At what ages are Westfield Rocks offered?

Westfield Rocks has a team at the following ages 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13.

What is the age cut off?

The age cut off date is May 1st. For example if your child is 9 on May 1st he is eligible

to play on the 9 year old team. Your child may try-out for any team he is eligible to try-out

for. However, we strongly recommend that players play at their own grade level.

How many games do the travel teams play?

Each teams’ schedule will vary. During the 2011 season the 8 year old and 9 year

old teams will play approx. 35 games.  The 10 year old team plays 45-55 games per

year and the 11 & 12 year old teams play 50-60 games per year.

How much does it cost to play travel baseball?

This will vary depending on fundraising and sponsorships, the base cost is $450.00.

This does not include the indoor practice facility or Cooperstown, NY or Myrtle Beach, SC.

These special tournaments are week long tournaments for the 10u and the 12u teams respectively.

How far do teams travel?

Each team’s schedule will vary. The teams travel locally with most games being played

in the Indianapolis suburban area. Teams may decide to participate in an out of state tournament.

Each year the 10 year old team and the 12 year old team play in out of state tournaments.  This

is not included in the cost. Home games are played at the Shamrock Springs Baseball Four-plex.

How long is the season?

Each team sets their own schedule. Typically a team will begin practices once a week in

January/February and begin practicing twice a week in mid to late March. The season usually

ends sometime in July.  Some travel teams will have optional practices from September - December.

How much playing time will a player get?

In travel baseball, playing time for each player will depend on a number of variables including but

not limited to; Attitude, Ability, Performance at Practice & Games and Hustle.  There is no guaranteed

playing time or batting order.  The Head Coach and/or Asst. Coach(s) makes

final decisions.
