Westfield Youth Sports

Lacrosse is a fast paced sport that is growing throughout our area!  It is great for multi-sport athletes as it will help with agility, hand eye coordination and endurance.  It takes elements from soccer, football, basketball, baseball and hockey that will help your son build skills that will transfer.  If your son is playing another Spring sports and wants to give lacrosse a try we will be flexible to their schedule.

OVERVIEW

WYSI offer two levels of Lacrosse programs - In-House Lacrosse and Travel Lacrosse (for more experienced players).

Those seeking to play on the travel team must first register for the in-house program.

IN-HOUSE LACROSSE
We will divide players into division that are both age and skill appropriate.  These divisions will have 10 to 12 practice/game days.  The focus will be on developing or improving lacrosse skills.  Games will be small sided (7 v 7 or 5 v 5) on small fields to optimize playing time.  Each player will receive a game jersey as part of their registration.  Full lacrosse equipment is needed, and is not provided by WYSI.

To play in games, each player must have a valid US Lacrosse ID.

Commitment: The expected commitment for the In-House league will be 1-2 days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays or Sundays).  We may have some indoor activities in late February or early March that may not follow this schedule.  This will be based on our ability to get indoor space

Practices:
first practice: mid/late February or early March
days: Tuesdays and Thursdays or Sundays

Games: will typically be on one of the above practice days

TRAVEL LACROSSE

There will be at least one travel team at each age division (U8, U10, U12, U14) .

A survey will go out after registration that must be filled out indicating your son would like to be evaluated to play on a travel team.  We may have more than one travel team at each age depending on interest and the skill level of players.

These teams will play in competitive games against other teams in the IYLA as well as potential tournaments out of town.  Players will be invited to these team based on a skill evaluation.  Invites to join these will go out no later than the first week of March.  Players should plan on an additional 2-to-3-night commitment that will be a combination of games and practices. To be eligible to play travel lacrosse you must sign up for the Recreation League.  We will use the same Jerseys as the recreation league and matching shorts will be provided to all travel players at no additional charge.  Full lacrosse equipment is needed, and is not provided by WYSI.
