At what ages are Westfield Rocks offered?
Westfield Rocks has a team at the following ages: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14

What is the age cut off?
The age cut off date is May 1st. For example if your child is 9 on May 1st he is eligible to play on the 9 year old team. Your child may try-out for any team he is eligible to try-out for. However, we strongly recommend that players play at their own grade level.

How many games do the travel teams play?
Each teams’ schedule will vary. During the season the 8U and 9U teams will play approx. 35 games. The 10U team plays 45-55 games per year and the 11U & 12U teams play 50-60 games per year.

How much does it cost to play travel baseball?
This will vary depending on fundraising and sponsorships, the base cost is $450.00. This does not include the indoor practice facility or Cooperstown, NY or Myrtle Beach, SC. These special tournaments are week long tournaments for the 10U and the 12U teams respectively.

How far do teams travel?

Each team’s schedule will vary. The teams travel locally with most games being played in the Indianapolis suburban area. Teams may decide to participate in an out of state tournament. Each year the 10U team and the 12U team play in out of state tournaments. This is not included in the cost. Home games are played at the Shamrock Springs Baseball Complex or Grand Park.

How long is the season?
Each team sets their own schedule. Typically a team will begin practices once a week in December/January and begin practicing twice a week in early/mid March. The season usually ends sometime in July. Some travel teams will have optional practices from September - November.

How much playing time will a player get?
In travel baseball, playing time for each player will depend on a number of variables including but not limited to: attitude, ability, performance at practice and games, and hustle. There is no guaranteed playing time or batting order. The Head Coach and/or assistant Coach(es) make the final decisions.

Tryout Information

Travel Baseball Evaluation: July 2017, date to be determined

Please make sure you register for your tryout through the WYSI system, it is simple and required. We will use this system to generate a roster for each team and to announce the team selections

No Westfield Travel or All-Star attire should be worn during tryouts: hats, shirts, jerseys

What should the baseball player bring? Hat, glove, bat, helmet, water

Spectators will not be allowed near the diamonds during tryouts. You will need to either leave the facility or stay in/around your vehicle in the parking lot.

Who evaluates the baseball tryouts?

Baseball evaluators will be selected from a group that the WYSI Sports Director, Travel Commissioner and Varsity Head Coach believe possess the best ability to judge baseball talent. Typically these come from our pool of head and assistant coaches. Last year’s coach CANNOT evaluate the kids in their prospective age group. They will be in attendance leading that age group from station to station and may be asked to assist at a station but they are not scoring kids in any way.
