Sport Overview
WYSI Tennis is aimed at teaching the fundamentals of tennis in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. There is no
experience necessary to play, only a willingness to learn, listen, and have fun!
Registration for tennis is open April 1 – May 15 of the current season.
Note: Enrollment numbers are limited. Once the enrollment numbers have been met, enrollment will close and all others
will be placed on a wait list. Unfortunately our numbers must be capped due to limited court space. We encourage
players to enroll early!
Practices and games will be held at the Westfield High School Tennis Complex.
Division Descriptions
Players may only play in one division.
5-8 year-olds Midwest Youth Team Tennis
Saturdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and July 13 from 9am-10am or 10am-11am. (Rain date will be July 20).
Please select either 9am-10am or 10am-11am
The registration cost covers an age appropriate racquet, uniform, balls, a 1-year USTA Jr. Membership, kids tennis magazine, custodians, facility, insurance, and website fees. All players in this league will receive a tennis racquet. Limit of 48 players for each hour.
The main focus of this program is to make tennis fun for kids. Kids will be taught the fundamental of tennis including forehand, backhand, volleys, and serve using age appropriate equipment. This includes slower bouncing balls, smaller racquets and smaller court sizes. Age and level appropriate drills and games will reinforce the fundamentals while also working on eye-hand coordination, movement and development of strokes. Drills will be fun, fast-paced with focus on building confidence, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Open to girls and boys who will be 5-8 years old through August 31 of current season.
Children will build on the basics of tennis – forehand, backhand, volleys, and service taught by instructors and volunteers.
Practices and games will be held at the Westfield High School Tennis Complex.
9-11 year-olds Junior Team Tennis with Match Days
PRACTICE: Tuesdays, June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 9 and 16 from 6:00-7:00PM. Rain date will be July 23.MATCH PLAY: Wednesday, June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 10, 17 from 6-7:30PM. Rain date will be July 24.The registration cost covers a t-shirts, balls, trophies, custodians, facility, insurance, and website fees. Players must provide their own tennis racquet.
Open to girls and boys who will be 9-11 years old through August 31 of current season. This division is great for returning intermediate level players. No match experience is required.
Sessions will start with a practice session ran by coaches so players will build on the basics of tennis including stroke development, serves, volleys and footwork.
All players will receive equal practice and match play time. (See match format information.)
If player is not ready for match play they will continue to practice on scheduled match days. However, the goal will be to teach kids to play in matches as quickly as possible, so coaches will modify match play as needed until kids are fully ready to play on their own.
This division will end with a round robin tournament with fun prizes and snacks on the last date July 17 (or July 24 if rain date is needed).

12-15 year-olds Junior Team Tennis with Match Days
PRACTICE: Tuesdays, June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 9 and 16, from 7:00-8:00PM. Rain date will be 7/23.
MATCH PLAY: Thursday, June 6, 13, 20, 27 and July 11, 18 from 6-7:30PM. Rain dates will be 7/25.
The registration cost covers a uniform, balls, trophies or medals, custodians, facility, insurance, and website fees. Players must provide their own tennis racquet.
Open to girls and boys who will be 9-11 years old through August 31 of current season. This division is great for returning intermediate level players. No match experience is required.
