WYSI participates in the Pioneer Wrestling League and will wrestle other programs like Carmel, Pendleton, Mt. Vernon,
Fishers, HSE, Western, Delta, and others at no cost. These meets are usually weeknights and are optional. There are
open meets which are optional on Sunday as well and usually carry a small cost. Athletes are not required to
participate in the meets. It is up to each parent to determine how active they want their child to be with respect
to competitions. Once the season starts, the coaches will give the parents feedback if they are ready to wrestle in
the tournaments. However, some of the beginner tournaments are just that, full of beginners where no one really
knows much wrestling. It is a great way for them to start competing. Westfield does have a dual meet team which
wrestles some of the best competition in Indiana. This team consists of those who would like to wrestle at a higher
level. We will talk with those parents who are interested once the year gets started.
- Skill Levels - Westfield Wrestling is for beginners and all skill levels. Kids will be broken up into beginners
and advanced and will wrestle only kids their own weight, age and experience level
- Equipment - We will have a wrestling shoe exchange where parents can purchase a used pair from last year for $5
as they do not get worn out very quickly.
USA Wrestling Membership
If the athlete decides to wrestle in the weekend open tournaments or compete on the dual meet team they will be
required to obtain a USA Wrestling membership.
