Track & Field

Sport Overview

Westfield Track Club is a USATF Member Club. USATF is the governing body of Track and Field in the United States and serves as the organization that selects athletes for the Olympics. By joining USATF, athletes will have the opportunity to participate in the USATF Junior Olympics State Championship Meet. Those who qualify at the State meet will be able to compete at the Region 7 meet in July. Upon qualification at the Regional meet an athlete will have the option to participate at the USATF National Junior Olympics Championship Meet. Last year WYSI distance athlete Lauren Dean earned All-American honors at the National meet by finishing 8toverall in her age group for the 1500m event. Registration is optional ($20) and can be completed at www.usatf.org. Be sure to enter our Club # 16-1427 when registering. Families are responsible for all entry fee and travel related expenses.

Meets, Events, and Information

Meets will be held on Wednesdays (unless otherwise indicated). Plan to be at the track by 6:00 p.m. with the last event finishing around 8:30 p.m. This time is approximate and may change based on the number of participants. Lanes 1 and 2 will be open for warm-ups. The first events will be 50m dash, contested on the back stretch, and hurdles, on the front stretch, at 6:15 p.m. Athletes will have an opportunity to try a variety of events in our open call format. These events are laid back and fun. Bring a blanket to lay out and watch from the infield. Volunteers are needed to assist with officiating.

Track events for Inhouse meets- 50m dash, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m; Hurdles; Relays: 4X100, 4X400, 4X800.

Field events for Inhouse meets- Shot put, discus, and javelin; Long Jump; High Jump; Pole Vault (6thgrade and older).

Practices are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:00-7:30 at the WHS Stadium.  Attending every practice is not required but we do recommend attending whenever possible.

Athletes wishing to compete against other clubs may chose to join the travel team.  No tryouts are necessary, however, an IYTA membership ($30 per athlete) is required. Visit www.indianayta.info for schedules and event details. More information regarding membership will be provided at the parents meeting.
